Opal:

I am Opal, the bearer of good fortune. When the universe was completed, God scraped together all the colors on his palette, creating me - a gemstone of mystical, flashing hues. In my presence love abounds and my touch will soothe away sadness and envy.

Qualities: Renowned for its color-flashing phenomenon known as "play of color," most types of Opal display a vivid pattern of spectral colors that dance in the light.

Black Opal has a blue-black to gray body color, its dark background serves to highlight the color-play of dramatic spectral flashes. Crystal Opal tends to be transparent with bright color flashes suspended in its midst. White Opal, with its lighter to whitish body color, gives the full color array in a more opaque background than Crystal Opal and is the most common Opal variety in the marketplace. Boulder Opal has color flashes intertwined in its rock matrix. Not all Opal has a play of color. Fire Opal has gained popularity with its yellow, orange, and red body color, and is generally presented as a faceted stone.

Care: Protect your Opal from scratches, sharp blows, and household chemicals. Opals should be kept away from temperature changes. Avoid cleaning in a home ultrasonic. To keep the brilliance, clean your Opal with a soft cloth.

Why Opal? Opal is treasured as a gift for October birthdays and celebrating the fourteenth anniversary. Throughout the ages, Opal has symbolized hope, innocence and purity.
